If you are thinking of purchasing a new laptop, here is a great report that I found that can help you walk through the process. A couple of things to remember:
NAR offers discounts through their Member Benefits site. Dell, Lenovo and others participate. Check here for offerings.
Consider a Netbook if you are looking for lightweight and only need a device to reply to email and surf on the web. It is inexpensive and quite fun!

Be careful with the NAR “discount”. When I was looking to buy office computers a few years ago, I compared Dell’s “discount” to their advertised prices and found that their advertised prices were much better than their NAR “discount”.
Thanks for this post I am really planning for buy new laptop it is really useful for me I am excited about this one it is really useful for me
I too found a better deal with Dell that was much better than the deal with a NAR discount. I informed NAR of that with no feedback.
Do you have any suggestions if we are looking to purchase a desktop and what are your feeling about Apple?
Thanks Therese
Hi Amy,
I too am looking for a sturdy, good computer for home use. Already own a Dell laptop. I do not want to get involved with Apple as lovely as it is. What’s the best desktop and fabulous screen that you would buy for yourself..? I live in Northern NJ, who would you recommend to transfer everything from my old computer onto the new one? Finally what’s the latest word on using Windows 7?
Hi Folks… I echo the warnings previously published… two years ago I met up with the HP people at the NAR convention… and shortly after returning purchased what I thought (or was led to believe) a well priced HP 6200 with the NAR discount etc. … Imagine my surprise when I was visiting a local Staples store about a month later and saw the same machine for about $50.00 less than my “discounted bargain” … From now on I will be more diligent.
Has anyone had any experience with the new “netbooks” yet? I’m thinking of asking for one for Christmas…???
